Status
of Bookings for April through June (Five Package Tour Travel
Agencies)

Agencies surveyed
JTB Corp., Kinki Nippon Tourist Co., Ltd., Nippon Travel
Agency Co., Ltd., Jalpak Co., Ltd., Hankyu Express International
Co., Ltd.
In
order to grasp overseas travel trends by destination,
the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) investigated
the total sales performance for the period from January
to March, as well as the status of bookings for the
period from April through June 2005 at five travel agencies
offering overseas packages. This survey was carried
out at the beginning of April 2005.
Actual Results for January to March
Sales
were brisk for every month, exceeding last year's results
for all destinations. Notably, the tendency to shift New
Years holiday departures from the end to the beginning
of the year resulted in a 130% increase in January compared
with the previous year. Broken down by destination, Hawaii,
Guam and Saipan continued to do as well as they had during
January through March last year, and destinations in Asia
and China greatly exceeded results for 2004, with any
residual anxiety from last year over a reoccurrence of
bird flu or SARS having completely vanished.
Bookings for April to June
With
the sequence of days off during "Golden Week" (April 29-May
8) favoring long holidays, the pace of reservations for
April and May in particular is quite brisk, with comparatively
longer vacations in farther away destinations such as
Europe, Canada and America leading the way. In addition,
reservations continue to rise for China especially the
Silk Road reflecting the recent popularity on TV of China.
