Results for January to March 2010 and Status of Bookings for April to June (Seven Package Tour Travel Agencies)

Bookings for all destinations were up on figures from last year for the seven consecutive months up until January.
Bookings for February were 8.9% down from the previous year. However figures for March were 8.5% up.

All Destinations 110.9% (January), 91.1% (February), 108.5% (March)

Bookings for European destinations were up on figures from last year for the eight consecutive months up until March.

Bookings in general are relatively slow across all destinations with only June showing signs of a 1.4% increase.

All Destinations 91.5% (April), 85.6% (May), 101.4% (June)

Bookings for May are particularly low with only Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau and China showing signs of positive growth. Although bookings for June reveal a slight recovery, Oceania and Korea appear to be stuck in their downward trend.

China, host nation of Expo 2010 Shanghai since May this year posted positive figures of 39.6% and 115.8% over April and June respectively. However these figures have dropped to an increase of just 6.1% in May.

E Although the increase in demand for travel to Korea last year on the back of a weak Won showed signs of slowing, other short-haul destinations including Asia and China showed strong growth.
E It was difficult to secure seats with the Chinese New Year falling in February this year.
E Long-haul destinations such as Europe and Hawaii also showed signs of recovery.
[Status of Bookings for April to June 2010]

E Bookings are looking strong for China from May with the EXPO 2010 in Shanghai. We expect to see a further increase as the Expo looms closer.
E The long string of consecutive days off over Golden Week this year made it possible to take longer holidays which fueled ing demand for long-haul destinations including Europe and Hawaii. However, this demand is expected to slow in the latter half of May.
E New package tours utilizing the newly opened routes with middle eastern airlines through Narita Airport are performing strongly.

In order to grasp future overseas travel trends by destination, each quarter the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) conducts a survey of overseas package tours offered at seven package tour travel agencies.
