The widening effects of the current financial crisis and high fuel surcharges caused the Overseas Travel DI to fall to even lower levels. The Domestic Travel DI also followed suit in the wake of a decline in business confidence. Both the Overseas and Domestic Travel DI are expected to continue on their downward trend over the following three months.

High fuel surcharges and lack of confidence in the global economy saw the Overseas Travel DI plummet. On the other hand, the domestic travel market profited from the downturn in overseas travel. The Overseas Travel DI is expected to continue on its downward spiral in the following three months, with the Domestic DI also expected to follow suit.

High fuel prices and the massive Sichuan earthquake contributed to further worsening of the Overseas Travel DI. The Domestic DI also experienced slow decline. Although both are expected to improve over the next three months, the Overseas Travel DI will likely remain low.

In the next three months, a slump is forecast for the overseas travel market, while domestic travel is expected to make a positive turnaround.

The overseas travel sector performed poorly as fuel surcharges, the weak yen and other factors diminished the sense that overseas travel was affordable, causing the DI to hover in negative territory, while the domestic DI made a turnaround and entered into positive figures.
Over the next three months, the demand for overseas travel is expected to remain steady, while domestic travel is likely to grow.
