1. Trends of International Tourism

Since the lifting of restrictions on overseas tourist travel in 1964, the number of Japanese traveling abroad has been continually increasing. In 2000 the number reached 17.82 million, the highest ever. On the other hand, the number of foreign tourists coming to Japan is a matter of concern, being only about 25% of the number of Japanese going abroad.
