10. Trends in Overseas Visitors to Japan

In 2001, Japan welcomed 4.77 million visitors from overseas, up 0.3 percent year on year. It was ranked the 36th in the world in terms of the number of inbound visitors, down three ranks. In 2002, the number of visitors exceeded the 5 million mark for the first time, reaching 5.239 million, up 9.8 percent.
