5月12日(木)、米国ハワイ州のデービッド・イゲ知事がJATAを訪問し、交流再開に向けてJATA会長、理事長等と意見交換を行いました。

イゲ知事は、「この数年はパンデミックの影響で、観光客の姿がほとんど消えたハワイには今、アメリカ本土、アジア諸国から多くの観光客が訪れ、本来の景色が戻りつつです。ゴールデンウィーク中に日本人観光客も増えたことが大変嬉しく思います。観光業の復活が、ハワイ経済回復に繋がります。ハワイは日本人渡航者の受け入れ態勢ができています。」とアピールしました。

髙橋会長は、「4月に渡航制限が緩和され、10連休のハワイ路線が、日によってはほぼ満席に近かったそうです。ハワイ旅行は相変わらず人気が高いですが、現地の物価高騰に加え、円安、さらにはPCR検査料などで出費が多くなってしまうため、観光客にとっては厳しい状況です」と心配されました。

At the Headquarters of JATA, Mr. Ige, Governor of the State of Hawaii, met Mr. Hiroyuki Takahashi, Chairperson of JATA and other executive officers of the association. Both sides shared ideas about the recovery of tourism in Hawaii.

Governor Ige said, “Hawaii, which has seen almost no tourists in the past two years due to the pandemic, is now returning to its original visitor capacity. Many tourists are arriving from the U.S. Mainland and Asian countries. We are very happy to see that so many Japanese tourists came to Hawaii during the Golden Week holidays. The recovery of tourism sector will drive the local economy revival. We are ready to welcome back Japanese visitors.”

“Hawaii is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Japan. After the travel restrictions has been eased, an air company official said some flights were close to being fully booked during the long holidays in May. However, the situation is still difficult because of the soaring prices in Hawaii, yen depreciation and the Covid-19 PCR test high expenses “, Mr. Takahashi expressed his concern.
