2009年の年明けから、すでに1ヶ月が過ぎようとしています。解雇や減産といった景気後退ばかりのニュースがクローズアップされる中、米国におけるオバマ新大統領の就任など、私達が最近口にしなくなった「夢」や「希望」といった明るい要素を含むニュースもありました。昨年末から準備に追われ、バタバタとする中、PATA日本支部の新春講演会、懇親会も無事に終了することが出来ました。御協力頂きましたJATAを初めとする会員の皆様、そして年明けのお忙しい中ご参加頂きました皆様に改めて御礼申し上げます。今回、バンコクにあるPATA本部では、新しいCEO、グレゴリー・ダッフェル氏を中心とした重要な会議が開催される中、「まず、日本を優先!」と、忙しいスケジュールを縫ってPATAアジア地域本部長のShahram Saber氏が来日、PATA日本支部新年会、懇親会を始め、TIJ、JTB、JATA、JNTOの代表に表敬訪問を行い、意見を交換して参りました。

ShahramのPATAアジア地域本部長就任と合わせて、PATA本部でも新しいCEOの就任(2月より)と、新たな活発な動きが見られます。両氏とも、非常にフットワークが良く、PATAとして何を今すべきか?という会員サービスを真っ先に優先させた変革を行なうために、日々討議を重ねております。皆様、今後のPATAにどうぞ、ご期待下さい。

なお、今回のShahram　Saber氏のスピーチ原稿を次ページに掲載いたしました。英語、日本語の2ヶ国語を掲載しております。また、Saber氏からの皆様宛ての感謝のお手紙も次ページに掲載しております。今後も、PATA本部、日本支部とも会員の皆様にとって有意義な組織となっていけるよう努力していきたいと思いますので、御支援、御協力のほど、宜しくお願い申し上げます。

Letter to PATA Japan Chapter Members
A note of thanks!

Dear friends, PATA Japan Chapter Members

It was a pleasure to meet you all during the recent chapter annual seminar.  I thank you for the warm welcome and the chance to participate in your New Year event.

My visit was most enjoyable and productive, getting to know the key industry people and having the chance to start renewing PATA’s relationship with the Japan industry.  We have challenging times ahead but I strongly believe that together we can navigate the rough road ahead, change the industry for the better and perhaps use this difficult time to refocus and help each other to rebuild a sustainable industry for the future.

As mentioned with the new leadership at PATA we look forward to renewed partnerships and our focus to support our members and the industry in Japan.  I hope to maintain a close contact with you and others in Japan with the aim to work together to further the goals of the industry. 

I offer my support and that of PATA to you; please let me know how I can be of assistance.  I look forward to our next meeting.
